It’s early, but she is alive and in awe. She glides through the house feeling that pulse of life grooving through her bones, wondering where the day will take her. She starts the water in the kettle, heating up the house and padding around in slippers and cozy socks.
It’s a simple life, a routine day, and an ordinary morning. She is calm and she is at peace. From the window she sees the clouds part, the sun comes through and the blue sky emerges. She is thankful for the simplicity and the calm in the observation of mother nature.

The kettle whistles and she pours the hot water over her coffee grounds. Ordinary life. Routine morning. Simple, yet significant. She stretches and settles into the couch, a warm hug of sunshine beaming through the door. She sips her coffee and thinks about the magnificent world bustling outside. People are connecting, loving, laughing, and working as one. People are coming together-- at work, at school, team meetings, for coffee, traveling. Human interaction. Human contact. Human compassion. Human love. The world awakens with joy. It’s simple. It does not hinge on the amount of stuff, the dollar signs, the most extravagant of vacations.
Joy doesn’t come from external forces. It comes from internal stillness, from radical gratitude and from sweet lightness. It radiates throughout a room, encompassing all beings and shining through souls. Joy is available for our choosing from the moment we awake to the moment we settle into deep sleep. When gratitude meets peace we find that bliss. It’s in the dance with your daughter in the kitchen and the rich smell of muffins floating through the house. It’s in the breeze sweeping past and the sun lighting the sky as you roadtrip along the East Coast with your best friend. It’s in the fuzzy socks and fireplace blazing with holiday music playing, spending time with your kids. It’s in the human interaction mixed with gratitude for the smallest of pieces that make up really lasting memories.
Radical gratitude. Mindfulness. Present moment. Your ordinary is extraordinary. Joy is happening right now. Shift that mindset, get grateful, and settle in. Your ordinary IS extraordinary.
